#25 Nine Times Six by Six

Post #25 - As promised:
Nine Times Six by Six
oil
nine 6 x 6 canvases wired separately but displayed as an installation of one composition
$900 for all nine or sold individually at $100 each. Free shipping.

Here is the original composition of the floral still life. The idea ame to me when I first saw the wrapped up nine small canvases on display in the art shop. I just had to try out my idea. I decided to try to rework the individual canvases as if there were no overall composition. Now I have not tried to stack them up like they are here to reshoot the reworked paintings, but I thought you might enjoy seeing from whence they came. The biggest change is in the color of the pitcher. I altered the color to better match the colors of the flowers. I can tell you this: I enjoyed painting the works even more the second time around! Perhaps you'll go back and look at the individual blogs where these are posted, about # 15 to # 24. I'd love to hear your comments. Please send any comments on this blog by clicking here.

I hope to have one more post for you before beginning a long overdue road trip visiting some friends and relations and getting warmed up after a weekend in Vermont. I'll post some sketches from my travels.

#24 Bow

#24 Bow
oil
6 x 6"
Reserved

This is the final painting of the little series of nine canvases which together make a complete composition. After showing this painting of unframed canvases, a little wear and tear on the edges demanded repair. I have completely redone these, changing color or emphasizing shape differently than with the originals. I'm pleased with the upgrade. This one, Bow, is reserved for a friend who commented on how she loved the way it appeared to be bowing.

Tomorrow I will show the entire group as they look together. Then we will be on to the last 5 paintings. Never did quite get caught up, but I sure have enjoyed trying to! I have a long way to go in building up my group of followers. Those of you have joined during this challenge have spurred me on to keep at it.

Here's to a great rainy day tomorrow!

Only one more to show from this little series. This photo appears a little undernourished in the color department — probably because the paint was still very wet when I took the photo. I love my daring attempts to be abstract, and I loved painting these!
Did I say, "Thank you for looking at my work!"

Getting into the home stretch of our Thirty in Thirty Challenge!
This blog challenge has had a profound effect on me. I have actually painted every day of January, though not always posted - there's been a bit of a learning curve postponing a couple of posts. I have settled into my downsized studio and stowed neatly an abundance of art gear. I've discovered new followers who have said good things about my work - you know how I like hearing that!

I've put my neck out on a limb with this funky semi abstract series of flower paintings. I really love these blue-green concoctions. If you do too, here's how you can easily make one yours. Click on the Buy Now button, or email me on the link which says here. You will have a painting arrive on your doorstep in about a week, ready to hang on a wall or sit on a shelf.

Or email me here.

Dead Center and Bottom Center

Dead Center and Bottom Center - #5 and #8 of this rejuvenated multi-canvas composition.
Oh, you thought it was a football team lineup in honor of the Big Game coming up next Sunday. Well, maybe so, if blue and green are the colors of the teams playing - my favorite color combination. If you love it too, then take a look at these. Nine six-inch squares fit together like a puzzle into a big square. Separately each stands alone as a floral element. You can turn the pieces any which way and have a couple of the prettiest tulip and iris arrangements. You don't even have to hang them on the wall. They have thick sides and will stand alone on a table or shelf. These two happen
to fit together because of the vase. The rest - anything goes. I'll be posting more of them. Collect just one if you want. Or a few to make a colorful grouping.
On Day 21 of the Thirty in Thirty Challenge, these are my 16th and 17th posts.

Reached the half-way point in postings. By Monday, I plan to be ahead of the pack – a good feeling!
Also, nearly one-fourth of the posts so far have sold. What a great bunch of followers I have!
About Waltz – I painted this in a friend's garden last summer and today livened it up with some fresh paint. The song "Do I Hear a Waltz?" kept going through my mind while I was painting. What better way to spend an afternoon!

Or just email me with your order

After staying up late getting the PayPal button installed correctly (hope it still is, but the email is there as back up), I edited paintings today. The old Party looked to heavily red to me, so i cleaned it up changing the direction of the light on the objects and allowing more space so the pitcher of flowers could breathe.I had fun doing this editing process!
Did I say thanks for viewing my work!

If you're interested, just send me an email.

Yesterday's I called Elegant. Well I got to thinking and did a little research. Elegant Terns are strictly West Coast! A group of Elegant terns is a Cotillion, and the Royal group is a Highness. Love the attitude of this one guarding about a half dozen others getting the crest all windblown.

Number Eight of Thirty in Thirty

The grass is green again and I am already thinking spring! Elsewhere that is. This maverick is not as alone as he seems here. Just one of a dozen or so, standing at attention facing the wind - on Barefoot Beach, Naples, Florida. Get ready. I'm starting to pack!
So you think he looks more like a jay? Tomorrow I'm going to dig out the blue black I usually reserve for black dogs and touch him up a bit. Supposed to be gray, black and white.
Thanks for looking and come back tomorrow for the next in this mini-series.

Here is a parting shot at the diminishing New Year snow on this overcast day. I rushed a little to finish before all of the light was gone, liking the loose strokes of paint. As I looked over the pale blue patches of snow on the roof and ground I thought of Azure - my beautiful four-year-old granddaughter!

Boathouse

BOATHOUSE
oil
6" x 6"
SOLD

A search for reference photos turned up this little gem I caught while sailing out on Narragansett Bay.  Boathouses used to be common in the early twentieth century or before. They are now few and far between, but we have a couple left around here to feed the imagination about days of lavish lifestyles and abject decadence. What does it make you think about?

Nothing I love better on a winter's day than tromping around in the snow! I found this not-so-large tree, half illuminated by the bright sunlight - a day of interesting contrasts. I thought it would be fun and a challenge to paint. And so it was.
Completed on Day 6 of the thirty-day challenge, this is #2 - progress!

Sunset January 2 - #1 of 30 - Challenge - 30/30

SUNSET - JANUARY 2, 2013
$100.00 plus $10.00 shipping
SOLD!

No. 1 of 30 6 x 6 oil paintings for Leslie Saeta's Thirty/Thirty Challenge. That's Thirty 6 x 6 oil paintings in 30 days - 30 paintings to go and only 27 days left! Panic already! Bedazzled with spectacular sunsets lately, I decided to focus on the theme Elements of the Landscape for the Challenge. This being a first for me, I seemed to be Behind the Eight Ball in completing the first post. A colleague whose work I admire was generous with her suggestions. So here's to you, Polly Seip: May my trees someday be as well-painted as yours!

If you want to collect this one, please email me or press the Pay Pal button below.

A New Year!

Happy 2013 to you all!

Tomorrow begins another year of Libby's New Painting - and then some. I am accepting Leslie Saeta's Challenge: 30 Paintings in 30 Days. I've wanted to try this for a long time, so I jump at her suggestion. Doing anything for thirty days in a row will be a huge challenge for me - your above-average focus-challenged person. Your comments on my past entries have been really helpful and encouraging. Thank you so much for taking the time to look and offer a word or two.

Two weeks ago I moved my studio to a new location in Historic Tiverton Four Corners. I can't wait to start exploring the area and this challenge is giving me a little structure to map my progress. In fact MAPPING is going to play a role here.

Here's my plan for the next thirty days of painting. Mostly I paint from observation - a comfort zone for me to start from. Last fall I began to study a kind of journaling using different mediums, lots of photos, patterns, colors, papers, collage and mapping in a way totally new to me. It was called Nature Lab. We went there just once. I felt like I was trying to put a round peg into a square hole. I had a devil of a time getting a handle on the concepts and how to depict them. But the teacher's inspiration has stayed with me making me want to move on here. So instead of painting a series of flowers, or birds, or lampshades, I'm going to carry on with what I began and focus on various elements of the landcape, exploring ways to present ideas the landscape suggests to me. I don't want to copy a scene. I want to have the art bring you into a place. It might suggest a still life, interior study or a piece of place I paint from my car. I'll be working with other mediums besides oil paint.

I'll begin with one theme a week as a daily experiment. Maybe it will end up being just one theme that keeps us there for 30 days. I invite you to come along with me as I set out on an uncharted journey in the South Coast part of Rhode Island where my studio is now. I'd like you to let me know what is coming across to you from these little works. I welcome all of your suggestions. The drawings or whatever they are will be tiny, no larger than 6 x 6 or 5 x 7, small enough to add to your collection if something appeals to you. If you have time, I would be really happy if you would forward the blog or URL to another one or two you think might like to see it too. Thank you for that!

Here we go...

VROOOOM!!!!
