The Neighbors' View

The Neighbors' View · oil  · 10 x 8 · NFS

Sad for us our neighbors of two years moved last summer to Washington, DC. This little view from their back porch just catches a small view to the far shore of the Sakonnet River. I have ratcheted down the intensity of the photo reducing the glare from fresh juicy paint. As soon as it's cured enough, off she goes to join our friends in their new home in Alexandria - a little remembrance of a brief tour of duty at the Naval War College and life in our cozy neighborhood.

Postings will continue now on a more regular basis after a surprisingly hectic fall. Included in the fray has been a lot of experimenting with a pattern drawing method known as Zentangle©, getting reacquainted with my old profession of Hand Lettering and teaching a few small classes, painting abstract works in acrylic, water colors and pigmented cold wax sticks (not all at once) and practicing the art of painting with a palette knife. I will show these from time to time as the spirit and schedule invites. With Halloween behind us, this melodramatic presidential campaign will at last be overwith in a week. Looking forward to celebrating and with relief. Meanwhile, thank you for taking a look at my painting and posting.

#184 Landscape Green Study I

Landscape Green Study I  $450, oil, 10 x 8 -  if interested in purchase please contact me by email. This was the first painting in a three day landscape study group where we were set upon first by gypsy moth and tent caterpillars raining down upon us inspite of umbrellas and protective clothes. Later came the actual rain - inches of it. Inspired by the most amazing amount of greenness ever seen by these eyes, I forged ahead and am pleased with the result. I resisted the temptation to tart it up by naming it Fifty Shades of Green. Painted with a palette knife to practice mixing the colors first on the palette before transferring to the panel.

Apologies for being remiss in posting recently. I have been painting a lot and am ready to show some of the reasons for the delay.

Happy Summer Solstice!
