Do-over of Think Summer

Summer Shadows
oil · 12 x 12 · $350*

Back in action! I am still having a little trouble posting from the cell phone, so I'll retell the story: Raspberry picking on a hot day, my eyes came to rest on this little field which seemed to go forever. I loved the deep cool shadows enough to drop everything and get out the paints. So much for the berries – I'd eaten them nearly all anyway.

I see this painting each day as I put out my OPEN flag. I thought you might enjoy a reminder of warmer days to come. So if you have an empty spot on a rich blue, yellow or green wall and think you might like to own it, let's talk! You can reach me at libbygilpatric@gmail.com or grab it fast through PayPal by clicking
*If you wish to purchase this painting through PayPal, the price listed there is $450. I will return $100 to amend the quoted price and the shipping is on me.

Lucky night at Artists for Save The Bay!

SOLD

SOLD

These two paintings stood out from the rest because of the rich color schemes and thick application of paint. Watching the attentive gathering in front of my four little entries thrilled me beyond belief! How good to see someone as excited to purchase a painting as I had felt while putting it on the panel!
I saw so many great little gems of oil paintings there -- all for the taking between now and January 23rd. Go! Pick up some great paintings and help Save the Bay and some Artists too!

No better cause -- it's what we came here for!

Spring

My latest entry to Artists for Save The Bay

Spring
oil on panel, 6 x 8

This has been such a busy time with no break in sight! I would love to see you at the opening reception – a benefit for Save The Bay. The $30.00 admission enables a portion of the proceeds to go to the artists -- yay! We certainly like that approach for fund-raising using the artists' talents and generosity. Please consider attending this popular party for a worthy cause.
You may find a good gift for yourself or another.

On Pins and Needles

Just a little reminder of what is on deck for today at the Providence Art Club. It's going to be my commute this week - only 4 of 5 days planning to make the round trip.
These are only 3 of the 6 paintings showing now. More to come as sales proceed. My friend showed me how to make this little notice on picmonkey.com (because I know you want to make one for yourself...) Such a fun way to make up your own little notice!

Hope you're planning to have a look at the hundreds of paintings - then of course, choose one of mine to hang in one of your little niches. Or give it to some young folks who have beginning art collections.

Today is a bit dreary looking. So glad I got out for an early morning walk. It was much warmer than I thought it would be. Get out and shop - or hike - just don't sit there passively in front of the tube!

#15 SouthCoast New England City

Beach at Fort Tabor Park
8 x 10" oil
Please reply to this email if you want this.
Can you guess? Just out of sight are the famous enormous hurricane doors, keeping the rising waters of Hurricane Anygirl out of refurbished granite storefronts of New Bedford. Standing atop some old fort ruins, I painted this view near painting pals of the Westport Art Group Thursday Painters. The chill wind made me turn away from the view of the lighthouse and Cuttyhunk away off in the haze and face the little park beach which seemed appealing in spite of the lack of lifeguards and beachy weather!

After lunch we moseyed over toward the Whaling Museum to see the brand new Black Whale Gift Shop where several Southcoast Artists' work will be on display. The Black Whale is adding to its Nautical Theme with a new restaurant in the "YELLOW BUILDING" near the Waterfront Grill. So much to explore in New Bedford! Improvements are promising! Young entrepreneurs' energy is finding its way all the way to Tiverton! Here's one of my paintings that will be on view there:

Black Port on Entry
6 x 6" oil

And Sunday, you might want to visit The Mill Pond Shop area of Tiverton Four Corners to see this delightful show at Kathrine Lovell Studio and Gallery! Please click on the link to check it out! I'm off to New Jersey wearing my Granny hat next week. But I'll be back before you have noticed!

Challenge #14 Ned's View

Ned's View
6 x 12"
oil on panel
$250.00

Yesterday, I picked up Anne Cordin at her campsite at Horseneck Beach. We drove to a scenic overlook of the Slocum River estuary traveling east on Horseneck Road. This has to be one of the most scenic places in the Southcoast region! A lovely old stonewall sheltered us from a nippy east wind. Plenty of sunshine was helping the freshly planted alfalfa get started.
I plan to make this one part of my winter offering of Small Works available at the Providence Art Club Holiday Show. I hope you will get there to see the entire set of coastal works!

#13 on Friday, October 4 of the 30 in 30 challenge: Marshy River to the Sea

Marshy River to the Sea

8 x 10" oil  $350.00

Painted this on a warm, overcast day. What a pleasant place to pass the afternoon. Awaiting a kayak paddling downstream, one appeared JUST as I was packed up and ready to leave. You can fill in the detail here - differently every time you look upon it.

Purchase now by clicking on this oversized button.

Or contact me here for other options.

More reading: I've declared October "Portrait Month" at my studio in Tiverton Four Corners. If you're in the area and the idea appeals, just stop in to set up an appointment for a sitting when I will photograph you many times and begin to lay out the portrait with value guides and color patches. I'm promising such small works by holiday time. You may send a photo, but it must be several and from different angles in natural light (no flash). Only soft casual clothes in soft colors. The price for the 9 x 12 portrait will be $200.00 - a huge bargain! Pets and children are also welcome subjects, but the price may increase.

Looking West at Warren's Point #12 of 30

Looking West at Warren's Point
12 x 16
$650
(no charge for shipping)

The incoming tide and changing weather are always factors to contend with while painting "en pleine air." Little things, like the tripod legs sinking into the sand, can mess with your perspective while sketching out the painting. Whoever wants this will also get a very nice wooden floater frame ready to hang.

I would love you to visit the studio to see this and other beachy works. The little beach paintings are going quickly. However, if you can't make it to the studio and your heart is already set, just reply to this post or purchase outright through Pay Pal with this colorful button:

Be sure to include the shipping address!

You may recognize the black bass weather vane atop the Cuttyhunk Island Historical Society. Painted this at about 5 am from a friend's cottage porch - still in pajamas. I can imagine this painting hung in a spot you look at first thing in the morning, as I painted it!

September Challenge #1/30

Dunes III

With the end of summer came an invitation to join another challenge - 30 paintings in 30 days. Not ready to put away my summer toys, I decided to revisit beaches I've been painting - in Rhode Island, neighboring Southcoast Massachusetts and Cape Cod, and DownEast waterfronts in Maine.

Labor Day weekend we sailed over to Westport Harbor, went ashore and explored the poison-ivied trail to the barrier beach. Where the two branches of the Westport River converge the scene is breathtaking - expansive and marshy and home port for the local fishing fleet. Popular with generations of painters, I will show some of my own oil sketches. Once I agreed (with myself) to join this challenge offered by my long-distance painting colleague, Leslie Saeta, I decided to paint all of the beaches I can possibly gain access to in the next 30 days.  Already stymied with days of heavy downpours this first week of September,  I'll be relying sometimes on photos and oil paintings I've been gathering for reference all summer. Dunes III is the latest in a series I began early in the summer. I love to see what emerges at a beach from fog and other inclement weather.

Dunes III · oil · 5 x 10 · $150
